AdventureQuest Overview
Adventure Quest is a casual browser based RPG which was released late in October 2002. The game features turn based combat similiar to those in older console-like RPG games. Users begin with three starting classes but eventually unlock more as they advance through the game.Players begin their journey in the realm of Battleon which is the launch pad for the first part of your leveling adventures. All but one of the cities are unlocked to free users. To enjoy much of AQ’s content including additional quests, maps, equipment, and pets a one time payment is required to upgrade your character to a ‘Guardian.’ The three base classes are:
Fighter - A melee class the focus on close combat. Heavy armor is available for fighters and possess skills that increase physical and element resistance.
Mage - Mages are armred with a variety of elemental spells to combat enemies. Most of the mage skills increase magic/elemental resistances.
Rogue – A more sophisticated version of the fighter with less focus on armor and strength and more on skills and abilities to defeat opponents.
Classes are distinct forms of fighting in which the player may train. Each class has ten skills, which are activated in battle by a unique class armor, although non-paying adventurers may only acquire the first five skills. The base classes are: Fighter, Mage, Rogue and the initially unavailable Scholar. Once a user has established skill in one of the base classes, they will be able to train in one of the advanced classes: Knight, Beastmaster, Wizard, Paladin, Pirate, Necromancer, Berserker and Martial Artist. Advanced classes include Dragonslayer, Dracomancer, Ninja and Vampires
Sub Races
In AdventureQuest, if a player meets the king of a sub-race they have the option to “evolve” into one of the sub-races. This isn’t permanent and the players have the choice to remove it via a quest found in Darkovia. Sub races don’t change the appeareance of a character but the armor choices available make the user appear differently in combat. The sub races available are Vampire, Werewolf and WerePyre.
There are more choices for sub-races , such as the DracoWolves and DracoVamps, though will not be available to players due to Nightbane (the leader of both factions)’s inability to make more of his own kind.
